My first six months at Glass Digital: Akunna Ukwuoma, Client Account Manager

My interest in the world of business and marketing started at a young age but heightened after the inception of my ecommerce retail and cosmetic company in 2015. I saw the massive benefit that digital marketing made to the growth and success of my business and knew that I wanted to help others do the same.

Though I have a science background with a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Sheffield, I delved fully into the world of ecommerce after I became a mother. I decided to monetise my passion for beauty and create my own company, which was run from my spare bedroom, inconveniently overflowing with different types of beauty inventory ready for worldwide shipping!

Following a drop in sales and engagement for my business, I sought professional advice and was informed to incorporate digital marketing to boost my online presence. The noticeable turnaround for my business sparked my interest in the field. I decided to work with other businesses that were dissatisfied with customer engagement and ROI, showing them that an impressive turnaround would be possible by implementing digital marketing strategies to boost their online presence.

Prior to joining Glass Digital, I worked for about three years with Wendernek Consulting Ltd as a Digital Marketing Account Executive. This is where I trained and learnt the fundamentals of digital marketing such as SEO, PPC, automated email marketing, social media marketing, content creation, and affiliate marketing — all while handling client relationships and managing their projects and campaigns.

Joining Glass Digital has been very exciting as the work environment is extremely collaborative and professional with a lot of room for growth, training, and development. I currently enhance client relationships by liaising between stakeholders and our internal departments which are technical SEO, PPC, Affiliate, Content, and Outreach & PR. I also create monthly, quarterly, or annual reviews and reports of clients’ digital marketing performance. Doing this allows me to identify opportunities for upselling and cross-selling to improve marketing results for our clients' businesses.

Here at Glass Digital, all staff are equipped with the tools needed to work to the highest industry standards and we go above and beyond for our clients. My colleagues are like family, they are very cooperative, hardworking, and incredibly helpful — I could not have asked for anything better!

The hybrid and flexible working policy works best for my lifestyle as I can both work from home and come into the office at any time to meet with my colleagues, exchange ideas, socialise, and learn from them.

From my experience, I would advise anyone interested in or looking for a career change to digital marketing to learn the basics and stay informed about the latest trends in the field by attending seminars and webinars. I’d also recommend seeking opportunities to network with other professionals, and — most importantly — keep a positive attitude. The latter is very contagious. Staying positive not only keeps you motivated, but clients and co-workers will be more responsive and very eager to work collaboratively with you!
